Orisha List

Osanyin

Posted in Osanyin/Osain by Omolotiwa on the January 1st, 2007

Osanyin is the Spirit of Vegetation, especially when it comes to their healing and/or magickal properties. You can’t make any effective herbal concoction without Osanyin’s help, whether you know it or not. Osanyin has a profound knowledge of, and insight in, the secrets of plants and of whatever you can do with them. Osanyin “works” for all people, not just for his priests and followers; in this sense he belongs in the same category as Orunmila/Ifa and Eshu.

Osanyin is often depicted with one leg, and with one ear shrivelled while the other is truly enormous. Oddly enough he doesn’t hear a darn thing with the large ear, and even the tiniest whisper with the shrivelled one. He is celibate.

Oramfe

Posted in Shango/Chango by Omolotiwa on the January 1st, 2007

Oramfe is not in a literal sense a road of Shango: he is a different regional depiction of the Spirit of Lightning. Oramfe is in the Ile Ife area what Shango is on a larger scale in “Yorubaland” in general, and in Oyo and the Diaspora in particular: the Orisha of thunder and lightning.

Yemoja Achaba

Posted in Yemoja/Yemaya/Imanja by Omolotiwa on the January 1st, 2007

Yemoja Achaba once was married to Orunmila, who had great respect for her, on account of her being not only very wise, but also very dangerous. She is a great caster of magic spells. She listens by turning her back at you.
